Health and wellness is a central part of New Albany’s identity. This focus on wellness is evident not only in the community but also in the Chamber, where the health industry is one of the fastest growing membership sectors.

New Albany Leisure Trail System

City planners were careful to preserve the pastoral appeal of New Albany with a concerted effort to maintain more than 600 acres of parkland and 900 acres of green space.  In fact, most homes in the City are within 1,200 feet of a neighborhood park.  Over 36 miles of leisure trails connect neighborhoods to the town center, school campus, country club, library, arts center and business park.

The Philip Heit Center for Healthy New Albany

The Philip Heit Center for Healthy New Albany is perhaps the biggest brick and mortar symbol of the city’s dedication to health. A partnership with Healthy New Albany, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the Heit Center is both a central community meeting location as well as a resource for fitness, wellness coaching, rehabilitation and more.

Rose Run Park

The result of more than 20 years of planning, Rose Run Park serves as a central connection to the many highlights of New Albany’s Village Center. Features include a sizable plaza for events, library garden for outdoor activities, assortment of kid-friendly recreational components within a wooded glen and trail, stream-spanning bridge offering safe crossing between the park and the New Albany Learning Campus, and a bike hub. The first phase was completed in 2019.

New Albany Parks & Recreation

New Albany Parks & Recreation has a full complement of adult and youth sport and recreational opportunities. Operated by New Albany-Plain Local Joint Park District, New Albany Parks & Rec annually serves the 5300 families residing within the New Albany-Plain Local School District, the Village of New Albany, and Plain Township.

Rocky Fork Metro Park

Rocky Fork Metro Park features more than 3 miles of walking trails that wind through woods and fields. There is even an off-leash trail for dogs and a play area for kids and a large shelter for family picnics. Enjoy sitting in the big wooden chairs as you look for wildlife in the open fields.

The Plain Township Aquatic Center

Plain Township Aquatic Center sits in a park-like setting, with ample parking, a main entry building for check-in, separate restroom facilities with lockers and showers, concession, vending machines and picnic area. Lounge chairs, tables & umbrellas go along with lots of green lawn for sunbathing.

The New Albany Walking Club

The New Albany Walking Club was founded on the idea that health and wellness can be achieved through a planned walking program. The health benefits of walking are well-documented. Currently, the New Albany Walking Club organizes group walks every Sunday at 7:30 a.m.

New Albany Links is a semi-private golf club that offers not only a great golf course but an outstanding social atmosphere. The golf course is open to the public yet still has that country club feel and playability. With its naturally rolling terrain, meandering creeks, lakes, wetlands, native grasses and mature trees, the New Albany Links Golf Course offers a great challenge for golfers of all different abilities.

A community jewel, the private New Albany Country Club offers 27 holes designed by Columbus’ own Jack Nicklaus. Distinguished by its varying terrain some areas have the lush feel of the Carolinas; others suggest the ruggedness of the Scottish links. Rocky Fork Creek was incorporated into the design allowing it to blend with New Albany’s natural surroundings. NACC’s Golf Academy hosts three hitting bays allowing members to drive balls from indoors to outdoors, and two more bays are dedicated to instruction, where technology enables players to record and analyze their swings, comparing it to that of professional golfers or checking their own progress.

Royal American Links is a nearby public course complete with a 27,000-square-foot clubhouse evocative of a Scottish castle. The 18-hole links style golf course join hands with nature to present a place of ultimate tranquility and relaxation. The course also features a driving range, practice chipping and putting green, locker rooms with showers, and a full-service Grille Room featuring ice-cold brews and tasty menu items.

As in other parts of the country, cycling has exploded in New Albany over the past few years, much of it due to Pelotonia. The amount of riders leaving from New Albany’s Market Square and Phil Heit Center on weekday afternoons and weekends is easily in the hundreds. New Albany’s 43054 is the highest zip code of participants in Pelotonia.
